The Government of Karnataka is a democratically elected body with the governor as the constitutional head. The governor who is appointed for five years appoints the chief minister and on the advice of the chief minister appoints his council of ministers. Even though the governor remains the ceremonial head of the state, the day-to-day running of the government is taken care of by the chief minister and his council of ministers in whom a great amount of legislative powers are vested.

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation

The BMTC is one of the three Subsidiaries of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, in the context of the city's expansion in the year 1997, Bangalore Transport Service (BTS) was formed. Later Bangalore Transport Service(BTS) became Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation. and the colour scheme of BTS was also changed from red to a blue and white combination. For this day BMTC still remains a division of KSRTC. The profits earned by BMTC are used to cover the losses from the NWKRTC and NEKRTC divisions of KSRTC. Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board

Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board is an autonomous body formed by the State legislature under Bangalore Water supply and Sewerage Board Act on 10-09-1964 for Water Supply & Sewage disposal. It is one of the first Water supply & Sanitation Utilities in India with jurisdiction of entire Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Area of 800 Sqkm, (Bengaluru Core area of 245 Sqkm, 8 Urban Local Bodies of 330 Sqkm ( 7 City Municipal Corporation and 1 Town Municipal Corporation and 110 Villages of 225 Sq kms.) It has the following mandates: adequate water supply to meet demand; creation of sewerage network & safe disposal of sewage; Preparation, implementation of plans & schemes for augmenting water supply & safe disposal of sewage; Levy and collection of water charges on ‘no loss no profit basis’ for sustainability of the system.

Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited is a registered company under the Companies Act, 1956 was incorporated on 28-7-1999 and is a company wholly owned by the Government of Karnataka with an authorised share capital of Rs. 2182.32 crores. KPTCL was formed on 1-8-1999 by carving out the Transmission and Distribution functions of the erstwhile Karnataka Electricity Board.

The National Law School of India University

The National Law School of India University came into existence through a Notification under The National Law School of India University Act (Karnataka Act 22 of 1986). It signified the culmination of efforts by the Judiciary, the Bar Council of India, the Karnataka Bar Council, the Bangalore University and the Government of Karnataka to reform legal education and to establish a centre of excellence for legal education and research in India.

Thanks to the generosity of the Government of Karnataka and the Bangalore University, the Law School has a campus of its own, located in Nagarbhavi, about 10 kms from the City railway station and standing over twenty-three acres beside the Institute of Social and Economic Change. Since 1991, it is a fully residential university on one campus with three Halls of Residence for men, three Halls of Residence for women, two Hostels for post-graduate women students, three blocks for Faculty Quarters and two blocks for non-teaching staff Quarters besides the Academic Block. The munificence of Mrs. Sudha Narayanamurthy of INFOSYS has enabled the Law School to have the Shri Melgiri Narayan Rao Memorial Library, named after her father, for providing up-to-date library facilities. The library was inaugurated by Mr. Justice R.C. Lahoti, the then Chief Justice of India, on 17th August, 2005.

The Institute assisted in the rehabilitation of tanneries, saving the livelihood of many workers. When fluorosis struck regions of Andhra Pradesh, CSIR-NEERI developed the ‘Nalgonda Technique’ to rid water of the offending fluorides. CSIR-NEERI’s pioneering solutions and landmark achievements to provide clean and sustainable environment is not only helping government agencies and industries, but is also giving a better life to millions.


The Energy and Resources Institute

TERI initially began its operations in the Bombay House, Mumbai, headquarters of Tata. In 1984, it moved to Delhi where it continued to operate out on the rented premises (which included the India International Centre) for almost a decade. In 1993, the organization set up its permanent base in Darbari Seth Block, named after its founder, in the India Habitat Centre complex located at Lodhi Road, New Delhi. Today TERI has a global presence with many centres in India and abroad.


The Institution of Engineers (India)

The Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI] is a statutory body to promote and advance the engineering and technology, established in 1920 and incorporated by Royal Charter in 1935. It is the largest multi-disciplinary professional body of engineers encompassing 15 (fifteen) engineering disciplines with a membership of more than 820 thousand, and serving the nation for more than 9 decades. The IEI has its headquarters located in Kolkata with national presence through more than hundred Centres and several Overseas Chapters, Foras and Organ.
