Dear Friends,

The 20th World Congress on Environment Management is being organized by IOD, on 6-7 July, 2018, in New Delhi, with the Theme: "Transformational Leadership for Promoting Climate Resilient Economic Growth".

Two recent significant events that impact the future course of global development include the UN 'Sustainable Development Goals' with the 'Agenda 2030', and the Paris Climate Change Agreement (COP 21). India has played an important role in both these agreements, and is committed to its own targets. A major feature in these agreements is the role of all countries on the globe with business, and industry as partners.

th 20 Century was marked by both, recognition and creation of a host of st environmental problems, and the 21 Century now bears the burden of resolving them and preventing emergence of more. Disaster management has failed, exposing gaping holes, and shoddy relief and rescue.

Green has become the most bandied word today. 'Going Green' has assumed a whole new meaning, with corporates adopting green economy and using social media, to reach out to their consumers. It would be essential, to consider options to make growth more inclusive and sustainable. Putting a value on the environmental degradation, human & social impacts of growth presents a better picture of the trade-offs involved.

Conservation of nature and protection of our environment is a collective task, involving citizens and government, the corporate sector and all other stakeholders in our complex and diverse society. Today, we face unprecedented environmental challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution and resource scarcity. Smart marketers are focused not only on whether consumers view their message, but also to what extent they engage with it.

As per a recent World Bank study, environmental degradation costs India $ 80 billion a year. Environmental governance and sustainability threats can no more be viewed in isolation, but as opportunities and a huge source of innovation. IOD looks forward to welcome your participation in this search for collective market- oriented solutions to our environmental concerns.
