Mr. Abhishek Lahiri is Vice President & Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy for South Asia at Mastercard. A seasoned public and technology policy leader with nearly two decades of experience, he has worked extensively across the fintech, payments, e-commerce, gaming, AI, cloud, and crypto sectors. His professional journey spans multiple geographies, including South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the South Pacific. Prior to joining Mastercard, he led Public Policy functions at Google Pay and Amazon Pay, where he played a pivotal role in advancing policy dialogue around fintech innovation and financial inclusion with governments, regulators, and industry bodies. His leadership has significantly contributed to advocacy initiatives focused on MSMEs, SHG banking, women-led entrepreneurship, and small business empowerment. He also led NABARD’s pioneering Bank Sakhi pilot project, which helped shape key SHG guidelines and evolved into one of India’s largest SHG-led entrepreneurship models. Additionally, he contributed to the Digi Dhan Mission at MeitY and has earlier worked as a consultant and government advisory expert with leading Big Four firms.

Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Head of Marketing at AI Engineering Services Limited (AIESL), is a seasoned aviation professional with over three decades of distinguished experience in aviation engineering, maintenance, and operations. He holds an MBA in Finance from the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi and a B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He is also a licensed ‘B2’ Aircraft Maintenance Engineer on the Airbus A320 family and an ISO 9001 certified Lead Auditor. Mr. Gupta has extensive expertise across the aviation ecosystem, spanning engineering, fleet induction, quality assurance, and airline operations. Between January 2022 and February 2024, he served as Vice President (Group Head – Fleet Induction and MIS) at Tata Air India, where he spearheaded the airline’s landmark fleet induction programme, including the induction of India’s first Airbus A350 aircraft. He later served as Chief Maintenance Manager of Trivandrum MRO and Head of Kerala Region, during which the facility secured prestigious EASA 145 and AS9110C accreditations. Earlier, from 2015 to 2022, he worked closely with the CEO of AIESL and three successive CMDs of Air India as Executive Assistant, gaining extensive exposure to airline operations, policy formulation, and government relations. He has also contributed significantly to quality and line maintenance functions and has received several commendations for his role in key aviation projects.

A Ph.D. in Economics from the London School of Economics, he has held several key leadership positions in the Government of India, including Secretary, Ministry of Culture, and Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, where initiatives such as Jan Aushadhi witnessed rapid expansion and the pharmaceutical sector recorded strong growth. At DIPAM, he oversees the Government of India’s equity assets in public enterprises, including capital management, disinvestment, dividend policy, and value creation. Dr. Chawla has also served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Minister to the United States, and Senior Economist at the IMF, Washington DC. His expertise spans macroeconomics, fiscal policy, financial inclusion, and green growth.

Mr. Sharad Agarwal is a seasoned aviation professional with over 35 years of extensive experience in aircraft engineering, maintenance operations, quality management, and executive leadership. He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer & Accountable Manager at AI Engineering Services Limited (AIESL), India’s largest aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organisation. An alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and is also a graduate in Aeronautical Engineering from the Aeronautical Society of India. He further enhanced his leadership and strategic management capabilities through the Post Graduate Programme in Management for Senior Executives from the Indian School of Business. A licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (B1) on Boeing 737, Airbus A300 and A320 family aircraft, Mr. Agarwal has held several senior leadership roles, including Executive Director (Engineering) at AIESL and Quality Manager for over five years. About the Conclave
The Institute of Directors (IOD) Western Region National Conclave 2026, themed “Board Leadership for an Emerging Global Order,” will bring together directors, policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders to deliberate on the evolving role of boards in a complex and interconnected global economy.
