IOD Announcement: New Honorary Chairman of Hyderabad Region

Dr. Sameer Sharma appointed as the Honorary Chairman of Hyderabad Region, Institute of Directors, India

Dr. Sameer Sharma has been appointed as IOD's Honorary Chairman for the Hyderabad Region.

Dr. Sharma is a seasoned professional who has served in various capacities within the realm of sustainable development, including roles at international organisations, research institutions, and government bodies. His expertise spans areas such as poverty alleviation, environmental sustainability, corporate insolvency, CSR, business and human rights, independent directors, and inclusive economic growth. With a background in economics and a PhD in development studies, Dr. Sharma brings a blend of academic expertise and practical insight to his role.

He has worked as Finance Secretary, Government of Andhra Pradesh. He has served as Chairman and Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (APCO) and the Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC).

He has also served as the Director General and CEO of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), a think tank under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. During his tenure at IICA, he initiated the Graduate Insolvency Programme (GIP) to train professionals for India's emerging insolvency ecosystem and established a portal for the registration and capacity-building of independent directors. He was head of the Indian delegation to Business and Human Rights Negotiations, Geneva, and designed the Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) for companies. He has served on the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Advisory Committee, the Business and Human Rights (BHR) Committee set up by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and the Fresh Start Committee set up by the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI).

In 2014, he wrote a book on decision-making in VUCA environments titled 'Hourglass Management Paradigm'. He has contributed chapters to several books and is a regular contributor to journals and leading newspapers. In recent times, he has written a series of articles in 'The Pioneer' connected to the management of COVID-19 and dealing with its aftereffects. He has also co-edited a book, “COVID-19: Exploring the New Normal in Insolvency”. He is also the prime mover to start the 'Journal of Corporate Affairs' (2021). - a one-of-a-kind journal in corporate affairs in India.

Currently, he works as a monitor for corporations to advise them on their policy-making, project formulation, real-time monitoring of projects, and impact assessments, including social return on investment (SROI).
