Book Review - Bright Sparks

In Bright Sparks, Sir John Tusa explores situations where pioneering leaders in various sectors have overcome challenges to deliver inspired, imaginative, and bold initiatives that make a huge impact upon business and society. Through these aspirational stories of leadership from sectors such as journalism, tech, politics, and the arts, the author explores the full journey of innovation and how it can lead to significant results.

The book is written through case studies. Each case study throws light on a time, a period, an organisation, a professional culture challenged to change. The coverage is historical, sociological, political, and personal. The theoretical is always based on the actual and is driven by an awareness of the practical and of what actually happened. Each case is told with a strong narrative drive. Each story uses a historical archive base to root it in evidence.

Each uses first-hand testimony to provide authenticity and a vivid narrative. There is strong authorial commentary and frank observations and conclusions based on the author's long contacts with and knowledge of all the key participants.

This is an inspirational read for any business leader interested in how to turn their boldest ideas into reality and how, in the process, professional cultures can be enhanced, revitalised and transformed.
